In June, 2016, I had the opportunity to go to the Canadian Museum of Making, a private museum owned by Ian McGregor who collects things made out of iron. He built a museum to hold this collection on property west of Cochrane, Alberta. The museum is not open to the public but can be toured in small groups from time to time upon request. It is managed by a blacksmith and his wife, also a blacksmith, who design, make, and restore things for the development of the museum site.
This first set of photos is the museum itself. As well as a functioning steam engine, it has numerous lathes, drill bits, drop hammers, hand tools and a very interesting collection of iron artifacts from Africa, some used as currency and in the gold trade as weight measures.
